what does the distance between the two E strings have to do with the strings slipping off the fingerboard ?
Whether the distance between the E strings is 1.5" or 3" is irrelevant as far as any tendency for the strings to slip off is concerned. All that matters is the distance between the E string and the fretboard edge.
