Halabja has become synonymous with the brutality of Saddam's regime. But the suffering of its residents has not ended with the dictator's fall.
"Every time I breathe, I get pains in my chest. My eyes burn like fires," describes Aras Abid Akram. He will never forget what happened on 16 March 1988. As punishment for failing to resist Iran, Saddam ordered a three wave attack on Halabja. First the army fired mortars on the city. Then planes d
ropped napalm before the final attack of nerve and mustard gas. "Our skin began to itch horribly and became red," he recalls. Over 5,000 people were killed, including 42 members of Aras's family. Many of those who survived were scarred for life. Half the population suffers from breathing problems an
d the cancer rate is twice as high as the rest of the country. Children are born with cleft palates and other deformities.

if it was that iran hated iraq, then they would only spread the films and pictures of halabja and thats enough, but they also did help the victims and gave refuge to the kurds, shed tears for victims. this has nothing to do with hating iraq. Its sympathy for kurds from Iranian people.

I totally agree with u , and I hope that our relation will get better when this anti-iranian government disappears. By example turkey wants to support turkmens of iraq because they are related, but this fucking mullahs dont care about kurds, they rather help arabs..u know why? most of them have black turbans on their head, they claim to be descentants of ali.. so they like to be arab.. instead of iranism, they promote shiism.

yeah this is the problems...the mullhas have to much power in their hands.... The mullas don't care for the Iranians...they care for the Arabs thats it.... Ali was a Arab (I believe) and thats why they don't want the Kurds get united with the Iranians....cuz both nations aren't Arabs and do not like Arabs much....if both get united the Arabs would be in a dangerous situation.. the mullahs must go, or Iran will be destroyed soon....and we don't want that...

I hope all kurds were like u, and all Iranians were like me, however nationalist-secular Iranians think like me about this issue. Some wise kurds think like u, some ignorants say fuck persians this that, and think in short term... instead of seeing the bigger and more powerfull picture: alliance,cooperation of kurdistan,Iran and other arian nations that are related to us, nationalistic and democratic alliance to curb the power of panturkism and panarabism.

I agree with you that all the evidence of Halabja was derived from Iran. Don't doubt our graciousness towards the Persian people, but when you look at the bigger picture you'll realize that Iran isn't all too great when it comes to a free Independent Kurdistan. I am thankful for your thoughts and your intelligent outlook, but one persons bright ideas are not enough to make a difference. Also, i don't believe there are any "ignorant" Kurds. The brutality towards us has made us hard.

I am a Kurd (Iraqi), I have been to Iran twice without passport or any sort of official permission which made me unable to stay in hotels but I must state here that I found the people great I loved everything there I didn't feel like a foreigner, although the government was too scary but still I could feel the civilization that made those people more supportive for whom in need. And we need not more than our rights the right of freedom.

hello everyone..i am persian from iran and i send my best regards to the kurds. they are good people, brave, honorable and same as us. persians and kurds are one and should unite...!!! and also iran is the land of aryans so whenever iran is strong the aryans nation is strong..iran has a very very rich history 10,000 PLUS years of history..and now it has gone down cause of the mullahs..look wut they have done its a waste. hopefully,iran will once again become the glorius nation that it once was!
