Even from the days ... ( 4 months ago by Palaiologos)
Even from the days of Emperor Constantine and the foundation of the new Capital in ancient Byzantium, the East was fully Hellenized. After the crisis of 3rd century, the Roman administative system collapsed. The transition from the Roman Hegemony(Principatus) to the total dominance of Imperial power (dominatus) introduced by Diocletian was followed by a new administrative system based on 2 branches :Central and Praefectures administation.
This system was ... ( 4 months ago by Palaiologos)
This system was nothing like the one during Roman times. And moreover, from the Heraclius Dynasty it was replaced gradually by the Themata, a system that proved to be the backbone of Byzantine power. So, there is not true that the administative system was Roman. As for the language of law, I agree that the first centuries was Roman. But later it was replaced by Greek and gradually Roman was totally displaced in Byzantine law and administative system.
Even from the reign ... ( 4 months ago by Palaiologos)
Even from the reign of Justinian, even though most of the Corpus was in Roman(Codex, Digesta(Pandektis in Greek), Institutiones) the last part that included the new laws, the Novellae (Neares in Greek) was in Greek because the Latin language was not understood in the East. I can also mention the Eclogue and the Basilika. The Basilika, issued by Leo VI the Wise(late 9th century)was a revisal of the Corpus and was written in Greek along with new laws introduced by Leo and Basil I also in Greek.

And I would like to mention Georg Ostrogorsky's words, sayin : "Even though Byzantium, for practical and theoretical reasons, insisted on the preservation of roman legacy, later on it was displaced by its original roman views" and "The evolution of the byzantine state was vividly dynamic with constant reformation so that when it reaches its end, the byzantine state has nothing in common with the roman imperium except the name and traditional claims which were not fullfiled"

Hi palaiologos! Me and my family we live in spain, but it hasn't been like that always. Unfortunately I have a very little idea of Paleologos' history, although I come from there. One of my relatives( my grand grand father) left his country (Greece) for ever in order to be part of my family. He was a Paleologos, and so, me too I suppose. I'm very thankful to you for making this video and I'm just wondering: Do you have as a surname Paleologos???
The Byzantines were ... ( 2 months ago by OrthodoxHellene)
The Byzantines were NOT ROmans, they were Greeks mainly. There were a few foreigners. Don' you Romans get it? We did that on purpose so we could get away from you empire. We created our own, and it was GREEK! Why do you think the Great Schism happened? If Byzantines were Romans, schism wouldn't have happened. The greatest empire was Byzantine and wass GREEK. We dropped all Roman laws and traditions when Byzantine Empire was created.

Why do you give ... ( 2 months ago by nomust)
Why do you give away the name Roman to the heretics and to the Germans who conquered and enslaved the Romans? The Roman Empire never changed its name into Byzantium. Roman came to mean Orthodox. Greeks were Romans. The leadership of the Roman Empire passed to the Greeks. The western historians named the Empire Byzantium in order to support the lie that the Roman Empire was the Frankish Empire of Charlemagne. The Greeks are Romans but not all the Romans are Greeks.

@jihadmycrusade
The empire was hellenised very early and before the arrival of Christ. Rome was speaking Greek, that's why Saint Paul wrote to Romans in Greek. Romans adopted the Greek culture form the beginning. It was a Greco-Roman Empire from day one.
Roman was more like ... ( 2 months ago by Palaiologos)
Roman was more like a political term underlining the position held by the Byzantine state among other Christian states as lawful heirs of the Roman Empire. The Byzantines never named themselves Latins .. on the contrary they even despised this term especially after the sack of Constantinople in 1204. The so called Latin Empire of Constantinople existed only between 1204 and 1261 until Michael Paleologos recaptured the City from the Latins. The Empire was Greek from every other aspect.

And once again ( know i said this quite a few times) we should not confuse the way we define modern ethnic states with medieval times. Thanks for commenting.
Byzantine Empire ... ( 2 months ago by erevos111)
Byzantine Empire was the Eastern Roman Empire.
The name Byzantine did not come into existence untill the 18th century from English Historians. At the time of its existence, the Byzantines were calling themselves Romans and were fully aware of their Roman tradition. At the same time they were also aware of their Greek tradition and culture. It was a fusion of GrecoRoman civilization with the Greek element becoming more dominant in the later years.
Also Arabs were ... ( 2 months ago by erevos111)
Also Arabs were calling them Romans, Turks were calling them Romans. When Seljuk Turks established a kingdom in Minor Asia in the 11th century they called it the SULTANATE OF RUM, meaning the kingdom of ROme. The Westerners, Franks Italians, Germans were calling them Greeks. The Greeks still are calling themselves ROMIOI even today. In final analysis you cannot understand Byzantine culture if you seperate Roman or Greek tradition from it.

The Byzantine empire was NOT eastern roman. That is propaganda made up by the vatican. We were seperate from you when Constantine defeated Maxentius. After that, we had our own political system. Official language was changed to Greek. People payed taxes to Constantinople, not rome. Official religion was Orthodoxy, not paganism. You didn't join until almost 400 yrs. after we seceded, and kicked Maxentius's ass, when Justinian converted you all. Byzantine Empire was Greek, not roman.

why the fuck would the vatican want people to believe that? The pope has always hated the eastern romans.. haha you damn greeks, first the vatican and propaganda then the turks, the greeks and their never ending lies. stop fooling yourself cause your people have been occupied by foreghn forces for thousands of years.
