Are tourists buying homes in Northern Cyprus purchasing stolen property? Title deeds for holiday flats are at the centre of a property dispute that goes back to the time the island was partition.
"They are building on other people's misery", complains Greek Cypriot Rita Severis. "It's really disgraceful". It's claimed that 80% of the homes in Northern Cyprus belong to Greeks who fled when the island was partitioned. The Greek Cypriot government has declared that any foreigner found to own property in the Turkish north could be jailed for seven years. But that doesn't seem to be slowing the property boom. "I don't think the Greeks are going to come and take it away from us", states one tourist. She's more concerned about problems with Turkish builders.

| yes in the greek side but the land was a turkish cyp land previously to england giving cyprus indepencance (from uk) so if the uk did give its land up in cyprus it would be returned to a turk(i suggest you read some history to educate your self) tis wil be why the uk not give the land back as it will complicate matters more |

| the hills surrounding kyrenia was like a fortress defended by greeks, the sea was red with turkish blood greeks were supplied with imported weapons from greece while turkish cypriots (including police) had there weapons taken from them greece sent troops previous to the invasion in one last push for ENOSIS but had not expected the turks to come |

| i have travelled all cyprus north and south, speaking to elders of both ethnic backgrounds MOST saying they lived happily with each other there was even turks marrying greek (not now) all say the trouble started when the majority greeks pushed for independance (turks sided with uk) then enosios I HAVE THE RIGHT TO SAY THIS COS IT HAPPENED? turkey suggested seperation to prevent the trouble that was occuring but mainly to protect its people from the better armed greeks you made your bed lie in it |
