I don't like this version, mainly because Leonard Cohen is the definition of unstated emotion and this performance is so flagrant as to be completely opposite of Cohen's style.

...Ugh. In my opinion (I don't need all of you to attack me instantly), this is an incredible injustice to this song. All of the injustice and grit and feeling is taken out and replaced by a poppy/salsa style.

No one can do this song like Leonard Cohen, but of all the covers I have heard of this song I didn't think this was that bad. Parts of it I really did enjoy.

The song is a satire, saying that everybody knows it's the end of the world (an assumption playing on the idea that we all actually ignore this idea) Therefore, he pairs satirical lyrics about the problems of the Western world (Paradise Lost) with a cheesy Latin background works. The tune/form of this rendition is meant to be satirical - matching form with content. I like that in a sick way - Rufus is tango dancing to the fall of society. If anyone deserves to be satirical, it's him.
