This is the complete "Et Incarnatus Est" from the Mozart Mass in C Minor (Robert D. Levin completion).
This was at a rehearsal in Salem College in Überlingen, Germany in late August 2006. Helmuth Rilling is conducting the Festival Ensemble Orchestra.

With her soft entrance and crescendo on many notes, it sounds like she's often a half beat behind... The orchestra seems to be lagging as well, altho that might be due to the camera distance or bad video sync. Beautiful voice, squishy performance.

You just hit the nail on the head. I was thinking the same thing. My coach used to always make sure that I never colored the music with the crescendo until I had solidly sang the note (can't fill in the color until you've drawn the picture he said)... still a lovely sound, however.

You cannot judge so blindly without having seen her live. I've seen her at the Met and she is amazing : a very committed actress and her technique is spotless.

The problem lies not with Diana, but with the conductor. And it's not really even a problem. Having sung under Maestro Rilling, I know that he always directs ahead of the beat. As for Diana, I find her voice very clear, and very resonant. Not many sopranos can find the balance, often overpowering with a piercing tone, or pulling everything back to far that it sounds like much. This is a very moving recording, in my opinion, though there IS a bit much vibrato for Mozart.

i cant believe i didnt know about this woman sooner. damn she's good! you would never its the same woman after watching her as the queen. she's very versatile. very musical and great control/tone.

what's that to say? Coloratura isn't necessarily high [in tone]; you get coloratura basses.

but she is a soprano...a coloratura soprano. her lower register won't be as strong as a lyric or dramatic. There are exceptions of course.

The sound taking is too bad, even for a rehearsal - which badly hurts the whole; Damrau is buried. In addition I find that while good song, powerful, quite accurate, she lacks a bit of the great plainness needed in this other-worldly song. Try Barbara Bonney (the purest on earth) - or even Sylvia McNair (beyong earth - celestial - otherworldy)
