my problem was "byJessCh"'s dumb comments. He was insulting from the beginning. I was patient with him but he went over the line. First, he makes a historical claim about Alexander (he doesn't think Alexander fought against other Geeks). He made very rude comments and made very strange accusations. Thats my problem.

I don't know what he insulted me. I never claimed to be a Skopian. What is his point? His only point to me was that Alexander never fought Greeks, and this claim is wrong. He did fight other Greeks. Greeks from one are fought Greeks of other areas. Thats just the way it was. When I pointed this out he insulted me. And when I referred him to Plutarch he accused me of being a Albanian or Skopian or something. You should be asking him whats his problem.

byjessch, Tangomanx2008 is correct here.He's probably reffering to the battle of Chaeronea(338bc) where the Macedonian army under Philipp the II confornted the united armies of Athens and Thebes.Their goal was to estabilish their power inside the Greek city-states before starting the campaign against Persia.There also was an anti-Macedonian political Party in Athens as the Athenian Democrats were against the Macedonian monarchy.

Also,Macedonia was allied to Sparta during the Peloponesean wars(both were Dorians while Athens was an Ionian city).Nothing weird here,it would be called a civil war with modern standards.

Kinda, I see what you mean by civil war,but I would disagree here. The Greeks of that era, of course distinguised between themselves and everbody else(barbarians),spoke a common tongue and so forth,but Greece was not united as a country.Each city state or had its own set of laws, its own armed forces, and even different set of values.The city states would battle from time to time,and Macedonia was no different. The term "civil war" assumes a status quo that had not developed at that time.

but I do agree with the gist. From what I've seen, both Greeks and the Fyroms both feel very uncomfortable with the idea of a lack of unity among the ancient Greeks. They seem to take modern national picture of Greek-hood and try to apply it to the ancient Greeks. Some of the stuff that they did back then would not make sense today (you don't see modern Spartans organizing a seige against modern day Athens).

Well, thats a good example about internal Greek battles, but I was referring to an uprsing that occurred after Phillip died and Alexander took charge. Apparently they tried to take advantage of Phillip's death, but Alexander swiftly put the uprising down. I believe this occurred in 335BC

´t neither Greek nor Slavic. Macedonians were took even by Greeks as their far cousins but not Greeks themselves. He was brought up in ancient greek way and achieve ancient greek military education, but he wasn´t Greek. Even his mother wasn´t Greek.

´t make Alexander a Greek. You know that Macedonians meant nothing against Greeks, they didn´t have such culture, science etc. they had only very well organized army in Theban way (also Greek). If he would have declared himself a Macedonian he wouldn´t have been able to unify all Greeks under Mac
edonian rule. At least he proved his "love" to Greeks when he burned out Thebai shortly after his coronation..

He declared Greek from the Macedonian kingdom of Greece! Just like Leonidas declared Greek from the Spartan kingdom of Greece and just like Pericles declared Greek from the Athenian Democracy of Greece and ...etc. Macedonia-Sparta-Athens-Thebes and etc. were separate states of ancient Greece. Ancient Macedonia was part of ancient Greece just like Texas is part of USA.

It was a civil war for the chieftaincy in ancient Greece... Macedonia had alliance and other Greeks(Epirus Thessally) as also Thebes have other Greek alliances(Athens Corinth). Sparta was neutral in that conflict between Macedonians and Thebans. For the same reason Greeks fight each other at all the ancient years. Macedonia vs Thebes 338 BC Thebes vs Sparta 371 BC Athens vs Sparta 431--404 BC Messenia vs Sparta 500-700 BC it was the harder civil war. Mycenae vs Cretans Thessaly vs Mycenae

We (Greeks) had civil conflicts as also the Romans had, as the Germanic tribes had as any nation had! This does not make one less Greek, Roman or German! About the ancient Macedonian, culture science language etc...do you know that Aristotle(one of the best ancient Greek philosophers and teacher of Alexander) was Macedonian too? If existed different Macedonian culture...why Alexander spread only Hellenism (Greek culture) to the entire world?

Why all the ancient Macedonian names(peoples cities mountains rivers etc.) from the birth of the kingdom(800 BC) until the end (200 BC) were simple Greek compound terms? Why the ancient Macedonians participate to the ancient Olympic games as in any festival were held in ancient Greece (Isthmian, Heraea, Eleusinian and etc) that only the ancient Greeks could participate? Why even the name "Macedonia" itself is a Greek compound term?
