Traditional Latin Catholic Mass: Easter Sunday
Uploaded by: trady
Video Description:
Traditional Latin Mass filmed on Easter Sunday in 1941 at Our Lady of Sorrows church in Chicago. The film presents the ceremonies of the Missa Solemnis or Solemn High Mass in full detail with narration by then-Mgr. Fulton J. Sheen. Celebrated by Rev. J. R. Keane of the Order of Servites (hence the white habits and cowls), the ceremonies are accompanied by a full polyphonic choir, orchestra, and fifty Gregorian Chanters.
The attention to detail in the ceremonies is impressive. Notice, for example, how the servers and ministers always take great care to move in order. Notice too that the servers are all almost identical in height. The Ordinary of the Mass, composed by Rev. Edwin V. Hoover, while pleasant in places,
is very much a reflection of its time. The Proper on the other hand is timeless and sung admirably by a healthy throng of Seminarians from Mundelein, Illinois. Unfortunately due to size restrictions at Youtube around 20 mins have been cut from the original, however, I hope to upload a full version
somewhere soon. In addition to the cuts I have added new captions and edited the opening credits which had deteriorated in the original. Other than this the film remains largely unchanged. Apologies for the error in the captions for the two parts of the Mass (software). The first part is of couse t
he Mass of the Catechumens, the second is the Mass of the Faithful.

Teenflunkie, I like what you are saying, just not the vehicle you used to drive your point. Please refrain from using sacred objects in a sarcastic way. I'm not offended. I just think that when a object is consecrated to be used, that consecration should be respected. Thats all.

Western Civilization:732-2008-RIP! Barack Hussein Obama is President. Western Europe-doomed to Islam. A dying birthrate. Let us not rue or weep. Our run was good. The music, art, science & literature were Glorious! We can blame VC2, but the fault was our own. An orgy of materialism was suicide. Not with a bang but a whimper do we take our leave. The mid 20th century was high water mark...look and enjoy what was. It's gone forever. We have no one to blame but ourselves. Savegery will now rule.

I do not think savergy will rule wavertree558. I think you do not give enough credit to the american people. Obama will have as tough a time, if not more than any other president than maybe Hoover? May be wrong about the name, but I am talking about the pres elected during the great depression. The birthrate is not completly hopeless. We as americans and as consumers have options, we must choose to use them.

This mass only ... ( 2 weeks ago by nwside7725)
This mass only dates back to the 1500's and its traditions perhaps to 1000. Thank God for Vatican II, so that people can understand what is being said. Jesus didn't speak in Latin and didn't look away from the people gathered around him. Thank God for a new understanding of the Liturgy.

You are quite wrong about Our Lord speaking in Latin. Although his native language was Aramaic, he did indeed speak Latin, as we can deduce from his conversation with Pontious Pilate as recorded in Matthew Ch. 27, Mark Ch. 15, Luke Ch. 23, and John Ch. 18. The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass was established on Holy Thursday by the Second Person, Himself. It is so sad that those who attend the post V-II Mass which was concocted by Judas-bishops do not understand this.

wavertree, We have options. Government can only do so much, even if it does allow abortion, it must be remembered that it too is a business. Now we must address the sexual crisis preverting our people. Once we start teaching about the effects of fornication, we will be able to cause this evil to go out of business, maybe even for good. What do you think?
Yeah, salvation ... ( 1 week ago by nwside7725)
Yeah, salvation from Jesus was meant to be esoteric and distanced from the people. I am sure a Royal Roman court proceeding is EXACTLY what Jesus had in mind for table fellowship. Our savior didn't even have a place to lay his head, but yet somehow we can justify spending thousands on chalices and vestments while the poor starve. Jesus must be smiling down... Thank God our church woke up and finally took notice!

These "experts" were from protestant sects and the novus ordo is NOT the Mass in any way, shape or form. Anyone going to it is not in the Catholic Church. Stay home and say your prayers. That's why we were given the Act of Perfect Contrition and Spiritual Communion. God knew what would happen at Vatican II.

I guess you've never read the Old Testament. Worth a look sometime. You might want to read the bits where God lays down the laws for how the temple ought to be adorned and the manner in which worship must take place therein. The temple was of course merely a precursor to Holy Mass which is infinitely more sacred.

No. Because VII made a new religon, all the "priests", "bishops", etc. are not really ordained in the Catholic Faith, therefore no one could bring back the True Mass or elect a true pope. We have to live as Catholics did during the Reformation and the French Revolution - stay at home and keep the Faith as best as we can. God provides for these times, even for marriage without a priest (between two Catholics) with Canon Law 1098. May He give us the grace of final perseverance!
