It is very strange! Usually all "Nations" and States, use a name from their own language, from their culture and history. It is worthy of research why Vardarskans want to use a 100% Greek name, from Greek history, such as Makedonia! Why they don't use their oldest Slav name VARDARSKA BANOVINA? Why they insist to ignore that they are Slavs that moved in the area at the 6th century AC? Even their Academy confirms that as the rest of the World does!

As she also says : Anciant Macedonia is splitt between Greece ( 51 % ), Bulgaria ( 9 % ) and the Former Yugoslavia ( 40 % ), just to make that fakt visible ( old territory but a new nation/country ), she's only asking for a " new " or " upper " and is not against the use of the name " Macedonia " istelf. That would be a good compromise I guess !

Grosomanidou obviously didn't speak on behalf of the Greek gov. and a majority of Greek citizens : it was her private opinion. The official Greek policy is represented by Dora Bakoyannis and her proposals " Upper Macedonia " or " New Macedonia " are a fair compromise. It is irrelevant how many countries recognised the name " Republic of Macedonia " - if you want to join NATO and EU, you have to find an agreement with Greece as it has a veto possibility and will obviously make use of it.
