My name is Trent and here is some of the work from my College Portfolio....I graduated in December 2006 from Texas Tech University...I currently have an full time in-house design job with a stable company, and parttake in some freelance work on the side when time allows.
I posted this in hopes it could help anyone who is studying Graphic Design to prepare their portfolio for the real world. It's a tough and very competitive field to go into, and your portfolio is your most precious possession to the rest of your career. Good luck to any and all of you. **ATTENTI

If you are a freelance designer, then you have to be pretty on to it to have ongoing work and money as well. Make sure you hone your selling and communication skills as these are absolutely essential for getting new clients apart from the fact that you have to be bloody good at design too. Well, there are a couple of answers. Firstly, there are a lot of font websites that designers use to download fonts that they can use in their designs, but for many logos the designer will create their own font (either by customizing an existing font, or just making a completely new one). Hope that helps :)

Very normal design!!!You need to use more experimentation. The best designers, use markers, collages, and finally the software. You really ise too much software and too much illustration and photoshop. UGLY DESIGN!!!

I dont know what rictit is talking about it doesnt seem like you rely on the software at all alot of these designs are very thought provoking and has a good sense of color and composition

dont give ricit a thumbs down, hes just saying that before the programs, you should go back to basics. and its true, in order to break into a business like that you need to stand out and make a name for urself. i do like the portfolio, since its way better than my stuff.

Well you could either buy software like Fontlab to make your own font, or if you only needed a custom font for a logo, then type the text you want to alter into Illustrator (or whatever software you have) and then choose the "create outlines" option. This transforms the text into vector format, which you can easily modify.

damn that was grade A design. I have about 50 credits right now completed towards my Graphic Design degree. Hopefully I can get into the School of Visual Arts, N.Y.C. Portfolio is awesome.

Try getting a paid intership and than you can network and probably get an offer. Or go through your career center at your school, they can probably set you up. They should since your an alumni.
