For sure that Eb tuning helps a bit, but the action on his guitars was pretty high and by looking at how he went from his regular choice as 13's to the highest possible as
18's and he had the fattest guitar tone imaginable! I call that wow, unique and mindblowing!!!

I am a straight Fender guy, and Fender is my choice of game. I prefer 12's and sometimes
13's on my Strat, and it certainly ain't that easy at all, but I am trying. I trully love that fat and tasty tone that SRV would get, and generally the harmonics are better and the tone is better and thicker strings.
