| Niallguinan I agree with you. I love Kathleen Battle an absolute star. This recording of Ariadne is available on DVD. And this part is shown at the end. But after being sacked from the Met unfortunately no other opera house will touch her. The Opera world I guess now suffers her absence. A great pity. Such a beautiful and remarkable woman. |

| yes, but many opera singers are perfectionists, and perfectionism cannot be the only excuse CONSTANTLY made for her behaviors. some are even bigger perfectionists than her, but they keep their cool and don't tell the person playing the teacher in the lesson scene of fille du regiment that they can't play piano well, and then demand a pit pianist! or tell conductors how fast they should go... or get the lights turned off on them in deh vieni cause they bitched at the stage-hands. |

| I agree, it IS amazing. No one can ever replicate the electricity Leontyne brings to certain roles. However I still maintain that Jessye is tops when it comes to the "great-loss tragic Greek lady", as Maestro Levine so lovingly put it. After performing it so many times she really does have the role under her skin. Every nuance, every phrase, every note is so full of passion. And it helps that her singing is just perfect and her voice large, warm and powerful. To each his/her own, I always say. |
