Seems that Merkava unable to shot a guided-missiles via it's gun. Just for comparing T-90 can do it with 5km range AT-missiles. They are trying to place on Merkava now a dynamic anti-rocket shield. Maybe it will help them against Kornet rockets when they will attack arabs again, but I am not sure =) Merkava is not best.

Merkava has anti guided missile system. it's call Trophy, it neutralizes incoming missiles, rpg, bazzoka etc.

37 merkavas were destroyed in 2006 by hezballah using metis-m and advanced versions of the RPG which the merkava's makers reported the tank of invulnerable to. casualties were still inflicted on tank crews and surrounding infantry even if the impact didnt penetrate the tank's hull (imagine sitting inside a tank that just got hit by a serious piece of guided artillery). all in all the merkava is still a tank and still suffers from the innate weaknesses common to all MBTs.

The Merkava tanks are good tanks but it's a coffin on wheels. It needs more amor against the soviet weapons. In urban combat it is very vulnerable to anti-tank ambush. In the open it's performance is very impressive.

There armor is so thick it slws them down. During the 2006 Lebanonwar, 250-600 Hezbollah fighters were killed and 13 were captured, while Israeli forces suffered 121 killed and 628 wounded. Only 5 Merkavas were destroyed. The Merkavas armor is composite, laminated of steel-nickel-ceramic modular alloy, so thick it slows the Merkava down to 34 mph. It once took three RPG hits during the 2006 Lebanon war. Ask me to send you the video to prove it.

look, IMI have invested years of experience in making the Merkava one of the, if not the most heavily armored and safest tank possible. but physics have their own limits. you can make things as tough as possible, with reactive armor as sophisticated as possible, but nothing is gonna change the core fundemental thing- its still a TANK. also, the failure was FAR because it was a tank, IDF simply did not intergrate their armed forces to work together well enough. and Hezbollah are inflated liars.
