Excerpt from a documentary series featuring the Transalpine Redemptorist monks of Papa Stronsay, Scotland - a congregation of traditionalist Catholic Fathers and Brothers of both Eastern and Western Rite from all over the world. The documentary was filmed in September 2003 and originally aired on Channel 4 (UK) in 2004.
The congregation was founded in 1988 by Fr Michael Mary and Fr Anthony Mary on the advice of Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre. Their aim was to found a new Redemptorist congregation which observed the original Rule of Saint Alphonsus and ignored the reforms adopted by modern Redemptorists following the
Second Vatican Council. The congregation moved from the Isle of Sheppy in Kent, England, to Papa Stronsay in 1999. The island was considered ideal because of its seclusion from the world and ancient connection with the monastic tradition. As well as producing their own newspaper, the monks raise th

Now some of them have decided to stay in Papa Stronsay Island after they rejoined the modernist pact with Rome. They have abandon the fight for the Faith. To obtain what? A piece of paper on wich is written that they are Catholics? It's a pity. We do not have to be recognize by a modernist paper to know that we are Catholics in the FSSPX. The fight for the only true faith is not finished. The Conditions of Mgr. Lefebvre that must be accepted by Rome in order to begin a true reconstruction of

the Church are NOT yet recognized by the Pope. 1. Abolish the false modernist Mass. 2. Recognize the Tradition (about false religions, false oecumenism, false liberty,...) 3. Cancel the excommunication of the FSSPX 4. Abolish the democratic collegial structure that has been created since Vatican II. And one day, a pope or a Concil will decide to abolish the Vatican II concil the only one that could be erased as it says itself. No one can accept this Concil if he pretend to be fidel to Christ.

This is a really lovely glimpse into the lives of men of God. It may not be everyone's way of life, but it is reassuring to know that some people on the spiritual path find their heaven on earth...and heaven within.

That's absolutly FALSE! The Secound Vatican Concil is the only Concil of the history that has declared himself NON-DOCTRINAL. All the fathers have approved that this Council is only PASTORAL. It means that it was a kind of great sermon. Because of this, the help of the Holy Spirit was not demanded. So a Pope CAN erase it. Go read the status of the Concil before speaking! Read the syllabus, the writings of the Popes before Vatican II! Read what Mgr. Lefebvre has written about the crisis.

They have 'officially' 'reunited' (sorry for double qouting) so, any complaints by Roman Catholics need to be done away with, though those in disunion may have some complaints. My cousin visited them, he was so struck, he's been seriously considering a monastic life.

I am not a Catholic, but while recently reading a biography of Pope Benedict XVI, I noted that he seemed personally sympathetic to the cause of reviving the Latin Mass. His recent moves to do so are thus surely genuine. The fact that the Papa Stronsay community has for so long endured privation for this cause has thus been vindicated by papal authority ... Or am I misunderstanding something?

I know this is an old post, but I agree. I have not even been to a tridentine mass yet, only masses with some latin. I see the difference more all the time and my heart really hungers for our masses to be more adoration and sacrifice. Pope Benedict is striving to help the church return to that.

I read that recently this community has reunited with Rome and is now under the authority of the Pope. They have changed the name to The Sons of the Most Holy Redeemer. Deo Gratias

They are in full communion with the Church. Communicado from the Commission Ecclesia Dei, posted on the community's blog: "Now this community is reconciled to the Church and the three priests members have been regularized. As a sign of this full communion with the Catholic Church, they have changed their name to Sons of the Most Holy Redeemer and are on the way to the approval of their Institute. The community has 18 members, among whom are the three priests who have just been regularized."

what I meanr was that it seems from this footage that the main concern of these monks (and their sympathisers) is that of the petty concerns of Latin language and Tridentine rites, both utterly irrelevant (and in contradiction) to jesus' proclomation of the Reign of God. So much fuss and anxiety over form rather than substance.

hi thanks for replying quickly... and thank u for clearing that up. i think i understand. if i may - i dont think its about language and tridentine rites but about the sacrifice of the christ on the altar from which catholicism draws grace from the body and blood of the lamb of God. that sacrifice is made through what u forementioned and thats what i understand this is about. i dont believe there is any sort of imperial language and the good news is in any way adhered too by the roman rite.

Huh? Well what do you mean by 'form' and by 'substance' to conflate them so? As is clear, what I meant was the more common usage of concern for what is peripheral ( absurd cultish langugae, all things ghetto cultural rather than the broader and needful message of the Kingdom). These pseudo monks worship the idols of practices. But in these dark days of JP the lesser and Benedict the rabid homophobe, the Good News is forgotten and the cult re asserts itself.
