Long live British Rail. It wasn't perfect but it was something under-rated that Britain could be proud of regardless.
Nothing to do with persuading people to invest in privatisation, more, I think, an "up yours" to the people who trashed our railways in the press and elsewhere. We had a good railway - and, to be fair, we still do, but no thanks to privatisation.
As for poor old British Rail......
There was an article in the Railway Magazine recently about reopening schemes up and down the country and looking at some of them it's a wonder they closed in the first place! They said that there obviously isn't a closed line in the country that 'someone somewhere' doesn't want to see open, so i
t wasn't possible to list them all, but they detailed the ones with more than a slim chance.
