To everyone who does not believe oil is the reason we are in Iraq! Hot from the ABC news one hour ago.
Strangely (or maybe not) channel 7 and 9 ignored this news story.
So close to an election John Howard has found himself back peddling,(again). Thankfully for Australians who are paying attention to the news so far only one channel has reported the event that in no uncertain terms breaks apart any misconception as to why Australia was/is involved in Iraq. With so many lies, and countless (George Bush has made it illegal to keep an official death count) deaths of innocent Iraqi people, and the needless deaths and injuries of thousands of soldiers, all it has come down to is OIL. What a surprise....Prime Minister

The US has stolen control of the entire middle east. Any government installed by the US, such as in Iraq, is a puppet government. Sadam was installed and controlled by the US in much the same way.
I would suggest you stop listening to NBC,CBS,ABC and FOX, who are all being run by war profiteering companies.

Quietgal, Maliki is the Prime Minister of Iraq, he was selected through an election process by Iraqis, not put in power by the US. Even anti-US occupation parties hold office in Iraq. So saying this is a puppet gov't simply is not true.
Also, NBC owns MSNBC. You mean to tell me people like Olbermann are doing to the bidding for Bush? Come on. If you're against the war fine. But that's no reason to spout every anti-war cliche that isn't true like puppet govt or stealing oil.

I know how hard it is to swallow this stuff. Everyone loves to call it left wing wacko, but it's knowledge that is readily available....just not usually within the US media. Maliki is part of the puppet government. There is no way to have a true election with men carrying machine guns in the streets. I don't think you recognize the terror still alive and well in Iraq.
Not familiar with Olbermann. I know that all media is controlled by their war sponsors. Follow the money.

I dunno Quietgal. Iraq has like 100 political parties. And they are wide ranging, Islamic, Democratic, Communist, Nationalist, Socialists, you name it. Only one party was outlawed and that was the Baathists which was Saddam's party. Iraq had one election. Yes there was violence that kept people from the polls. Yes, some parties boycotted the elections. But still that doesn't mean the US put him in power just because of the elections were imperfect.

Maliki is part of the Dawa Islamic Party. He was the choice of al-Sistani who is the Grand Ayatolla of Iraq so I think that is why he is in power today.

Well, the US also put Sadam into power. I think their fingers have been in the political pot pretty much since they diced up the middle east after WWII and invented Israel. (which has complete US support). Iraq is much too valueable a monopoly piece...the US will be there controlling it and running it for many, many decades.

I can't pretend to know all the players. All I know is how the US operates, and has always operated. The US is notorious for upending democracies and installing dictators, or at least controllable leaders.

LOL That is the US attitude moron. The UK has on occasion helped just to help. The US only ever gets involved in anything if it is gonna benifit them in some way. Even WW2 where Americans like to claim they saved the day out of the goodness of there heart. For years you had told everyone too bad you can just die and you did nothing. It's easy to get sucked in to believing that the U.S. invasion of Iraq was somehow morally upstanding, but the truth is that there are TONS of situations all over the world where violent corrupt leaders should be ousted and their suffering populations aided.
