I don't think Russia is gonna do much (if at all) to help Iran. the same talks were made by Zhirinovsky b4 US invaded Iraq : "George, u shitty cowboy, hold your horse, think a bit - who do u f*** with ! we will not allow you to bomb Iraq...." and did Russia do anything more than verbally protest Iraq invasion? however certainly Russia will not allow US to "put even one foot into Russia"... that is pretty clear. but then US already knows that and I doubt that it'll ever try!

I know that. strong ties that might be - however Russia won't provide military support to Iran, I am sure. however Russia has few other measures up its sleeves ;) so, definitely it won't be so idle this time as in Iraq's case. in facts, the whole Georgia affair was partly - to protect Russia's interests in Iran: 1) to destroy Israeli/US air bases in Georgia; 2) to postpone their strike on Iran enough to complete supply of anti-missile systems and of course to tweak US nose a bit! ;)

so, my bet is - both Russia and US will avoid direct confrontation. the max what might happen is - a proxy war, as practically the Georgian affair was. and both are pretty good at it (Vietnam & Afghan wars). military-industrial complex in US has too high stakes in already arranged attack on Iran to back away. especially with financial mess US in at the moment. so, it'll ensure that "show must go on": they've got $680bln budget anyway, so ec.crisis doesn't bother them at all !

what Russia did in georgia is - severely damage its infrastructure and especially those military bases which Israel and US has been negotiating with Georgia for their use against Iran since 2006 ! also Russia has captured some top-notch Israeli spy drones as well as some sophisticated American radio devices vital for planned air strikes on Iran. no wonder that Condi and Cheney were so pissed off, in fact furious ! :) stupid morons ! must have held better reigns on their pet dog Sucker-shvili
