The clip is from a Cyprus TV documentary on the EOKA hero Grigoris Afxentiou. It shows newsreel footage from the Battle of Machairas, the capture of Avgoustinos Efstathiou and the death of Afxentiou. The excerpt with Michalis Triantafylides is particularly noteworthy and is an account of how Grigo
ris' father, Pieris, was taken to see his son's charred remains in the mortuary and came out with a broad smile on his face. Triantafylides says he couldn't believe the old man's reaction and thought that perhaps the remains weren't Grigoris' and that he was still alive. Afterwards, in the car drivi
ng away towards Nicosia, the old man broke down and Triantafylides asked him why, I thought from your reaction before that it wasn't Grigoris they killed, that it was someone else.
