15:2-30:2 A.H.A. found that chest compressions that are given hard and deep have more greater benefits than with the previous ratio of 15:2 which caused for more delay of chest compressions. The Study also found that the chest compressions given dont need to have mouth to mouth or ventillations because once chest compressions begin the lungs re-expand and suck in air, which in turn produces more circulation and brings more oxygen to the brain of the individual. no more mouth to mouth YAY!!! -EMT

yeah it is VERY common when doing cpr to break ribs. don't worry about it though when doing it. withing about 6 to 8 weeks it will heal and also the patient won't feel the pain obviously because they have no pulse and are not breathing.

Lay people doing CPR have not checked for a pulse since 2000. If they find a person unresponsive not breathing, CPR is to be started with 2 breaths and 30 compressions. It should take about 18 seconds to do the 30 compressions. The crunch you hear during the first few compressions may be the ribs but probably and more importantly it is the costal cartlidge, the super glue that holds the sternum to the ribs. It must be seperated. The older the person the louder it is! It heals in 6-8 weeks.
