Many of the great things that are labeled as Greek by the west have their roots further east. Also Iran arose to power more than a few times, could the same be said about Greece? Were the Greeks able to withstand the Ottomans like Iran did? Even today, Iran (after all the extreme and destructive invasions) could easily become a regional superpower, if it isnt one already. Could the same be said about Greece? Can Greece even act without asking for America's permission?

True, the Greeks have had some great achievements. I am a "Westerner" and my vision of the world is influenced by western values, even though I am aware of this fact and try to have an impartial attitude.
Nonetheless, in this case, it is very important to stress the fact that the Western civilization is the result of our Greek-Roman heritage that the Renaissance brought back to Europe after centuries of immersion into the darkness of the Middle Ages.

Science is a western concept, a systematic body of knowledge based on principles of objectivity and on a specific method: the use of induction and deduction to formulate hypothesis that have to be tested in order to originate a theory. The scientific method was developed in Europe and had its base on Greek philosophical studies of logic and metaphysics.

main religion thanks to Constantine, the Roman Emperor. Nevertheless, Greek mitology still has an enormous influence in European literature and art.
