Video Description:
I awoke on the morning of the 12th July to a smell of paper burning. I walked out on to the balcony to see small amounts of ash falling out of the sky. I noticed a small plume of smoke behind the hill we were by. We watched it get thicker and thicker and start to glow orange. The rep did not come and see us to explain if we were going to be evacuated. I went to see her and I think up until this point they had not considered an evacuation. She told me to go back and pack (which we had already, just in case) and she would let us know what was happening. I only had time to go back to the room to explain to the family, when the rep came running back saying get out quick. We left the accomodation very quickly to be greeted by a chap on a motor bike who said in his broken English, "Fire coming here, leave this place, go, go!." so we had to walk to the main road (about quarter of a mile) by which time the fire was following us along the road. I did not get chance to film the worst bits because we were trying to get away from the fire. Apologies for the wind noise only this video camera was new for the holiday and I had not learnt how to limit the wind noise.

| I love Greece as a holiday destination and I love the Greek people. I understand that people have been killed as a result of the fires, which they believe were started by arsonists. Why did they start the fires? Is it due to property developer's trying to get permission to build. Or is it that some Greek people do not like foreign tourists much? To answer your question, what these people have done is very wrong and should be punished severely. However, I do not agree with a life for a life. |

| Now to answer your questions...Fires in Greece start almost every summer in particular regions for the reason you said "get permission to buld" BUT only this summer we had a complete disaster and almost 70 deaths, never again!It was an organized plan for geopolitic reasons. |
