This Ukrainian church is definitely not Eastern Orthodox. If you watch carefully there is a statue of the Sacred Heart and the Immaculate heart of Mary, devotions that came from the Latin Church. The Eastern Orthodox won't allow such devotions to exist within their churches.

Too bad, my 1st comment wasn't that exact that though Eastern Catholics were preserved from the onslaught of the Novus Ordo, nevertheless, they surely weren't spared from heavy "latinization", due to there ties with the Latin Church. Eastern Catholics should try to rediscover their own apostolic identity and tradition, (like traditional Roman Catholics rediscovering the Traditional Latin Mass), while be faithful to the Successor of Peter.
Long live Catholic Tradition and the Tridentine Mass!

It's not Greek Catholic mass (such thing doesn't even exist in Ukraine).
This church is Ukrainian Orthodox Church - Kiev Patriarchy which was started by Filaret in 1991. Ukrainian version of Greek Orthodox which I do not support..
And judging by the interior and ascent of this person the church is located on the west of Ukraine .

my grandparents and uncles died for it, and how can you judge from the inside of the church? it looks the same, only in union with the pope. more than 40% of ukraine's christians are Greek Catholic. and yes, a majority are in wastern ukraine, BECAUSE ON THE EAST THEY WHERE KILLED BY THE RUSSIANS!!

Um, yeah, the Greek Catholic church DOES exist in Ukraine. It's called the Divine Liturgy, not the Mass, but it is definitely part of the CATHOLIC, not Orthodox, Church. Please read up on the Eastern rites of the Catholic Church.

4ernaja obviously knows not what he speaks whereof. Anyone with an iota of bran activity knows that the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church does exist in Ukraine, and that its people suffered mountains of bodies and rivers of blood to maintain its Byzantine traditions & communion with Rome! More: Arch. Andreij Sheptiskiej was approached by the Orthodox to lead them!

ive seen PLENTY of Orthodox priests who dont have beards or long hair and ive seen plenty of catholics with the same. he's not wearing a black robe....at the moment because always at the liturgy, if you are serving you chang into brighter robes. you only walk outside of church in the black robes.
also...there arent supposed to be statues in an eastern church, that only shows latinization there

Actually, this is an Eastern Catholic mass (which can include the Byzantine, Greek, Ukrainian rites, etc.) Eastern Catholicism is unique because while it is under the authority of the Pope, they also retain they liturgy and those tenants which have not undergone the Latin Rite's influence.

I understand what you mean. However, I thought that since Vatican II, the official position of the Catholic Church was that salvation--and along with doctrinal orthodoxy, as is necessary--exists outside the Roman Church.

But Eastern liturgy is latinized in countries with Roman Catholic majority, so sometimes there is a small difference between Eastern and Roman Catholic masses. Take for example the Eparchy of Krizevci.

You're absolutely right, especially right here in the U.S. My great-grandmother was actually Byzantine, and my dad described the big differences between her funeral mass b/t Eastern Catholicism and the Western Church.

You are so CORRECT julianhayda, and your comments can be backed up by the CTV telecast of the funeral of Pope John Paul II. When the cameras were on our very own and splendid Cardinal Husar, the commentary reflected that the Ukrainian Greek Cathlic church is the largest subdivision next to the Romans, and exact numbers were quoted. Cardinal Husar was resplendent. It was thrilling. And this was not a figment of the imagination.

the problem is that we pretty much are orthodox, the only reason we are not is because we acknowlege the pope, everything else is based in orthodoxy
Its a pretty new development in the eastern catholic churches to identify yourself as "catholic" and not orthodox because at the time of galician poland catholics wherent persecuted The only reason the ukrainians joined the catholic church in the late 1500s was political, to avoid russian war and

if you look at the popes title he is known as "patriarch of the west[ern church]" (recently that has been changed because roman catholics in other countries have been offended) our patriarch, Husar is equal with the pope being a patriarch, as are all other eastern patriarchs. when you call him a "
cardinal" its degrading because cardinal is lower than pope

But I live in a country were Roman Catholics are mayoroty, and Byzantine Catholics are extreme minority. Our Eparchy counts only 6.500 belivers and we are only bishuporic in Roman Catholic Church.

This is not the proper place to confess your sins. Please find a validly consecrated Priest, go to the confessional, confess your sins, obtain absolution, and sincerely perform your penance. BAD CONFESSIONS DO NOT ABSOLVE SINS, and MANY WHO ENTER ETERNITY IN HELL FAILED TO SINCERELY CONFESS THEIR SINS WITH REMORSE and real resolve to turn away from these sins in the future. Just look at the hundreds of new churches that were built all over Ukraine! And more are being built. A new church was started in my father's time in 1930's, forbidden by the Soviet authorities, and finished in the 1990's. That's how the Ukrainian people win, and old soviet world loses! It's not just religion, but the return to Ukrainian traditions, Ukrainian culture and language. Cheers!

Actually the council never literally said that. All it said was polical correctness from a good point of view, which can be interpreted in various ways as needed. The doctrine of the church has not changed in any way.
