There is no best. Competition implies lack. Do you really believe Tommy or Eric Mongrain are competing.You can't rationalising art. Just experience, if you bring logic into it you'll lose out. I love the obvious passion in Tommy's playing, any player with this passion will give a gift to the listeners. I saw Steve Vai in Oslo a couple of years back. He played for 3.5 hours and put 100% feeling and passion into every single note right to the end. This is what makes a great player.

I'm learning this at the moment. It's not an incredibly hard one to play, (it is hard to put the feeling Tommy does into it,) but there's that bloody chord at the start which I swear is cracking the bones in my left hand.

ha ha yeah with the thumb on the third fret in the intro (I only play that chord 3xx233).
I find it quite hard find places for these little notes on the tab, bass notes that add atmosphere and take extra fingerings to setup for. For me if I don't connect everything it sounds crap.

haha yeah im learning it to, that chord is a bitch especially because i have smaller hands. i play it a little differently, a3, d3, and i think b3 and you get the same effect if you pick in a different way; it might be a little easier but eh. great song though.

actually I can do the whole chord now by putting my second finger on the b and e strings, but i can't do it while holding the g string with my finger from the previous run of notes.

Mistake? LOL o_O Sounded like a 'muted pull-off' to me :)(Which to any guitarist would be difficult to still let the note ring) He uses the same technique to awesome effect in the 'Over the rainbow' piece, I forget which show it is but in it Tommy is wearing a blue shirt...WATCH IT ;)

Sorry to post so soon...wanted to comment re: Doyle. Yes he's good, yes he's better than I will ever be. But IMHO he really doesnt compare to Tommy so thats pointless. I always thought Doyles guitar playing sounded like it was a MIDI piece lol. If you know what I mean, you'll agree ;) lol
