An army of 250,000 is an easy army to build for Darius. Remember Xerxes built an army of 250,000 Persians just for a PUNITIVE expedition to Greece. Holofernes was given 115,000 men just to punish some western satrapies. An army of 250,000 is already a conservative estimate. Darius had over a year to gather these troops.

It's not a million. It's more into the figures of 250,000 - 350,000 men. Persians can muster those troops in about a year, which Darius did plus there were still some regiments in Bactria and Sogdia which Darius wasn't able to deploy.

Maybe you are so careless that you dont show interest in your country's history but even an 8 year old Persian kid knows the basics about the history of ancient Persia. I at least know that historians such as herodotus looked for a good story rather than the truth.

I am not trying to look knowledgable or anything, I am telling you the truth,I am glad someone ended the reign of the achaemenid Persians because they had become weak and corrupt, but the facts have been much exagerated. If Alexander hadnt come my friend, the dynasty would have ended in even more bloodshed by destruction from within.

I agree-- i might put it around 100000. Just my imput... the persians didn't have the stregth, even during the persain wars (largest assembling of the persian army ever) which was no more than 300000 to hold an army much larger than 1000000. alexander had around 45000 including the cavalry. i would say 1-2/3. however, alexander only lost about 3000 troops as compared to the 50000 on the persians side.
